Simple recycling resolutions to consider for 2025

January is the time of year when many of us set good intentions for the year ahead, so what better time to make some resolutions around recycling?

Here are a few New Year's Resolutions to add to your list for 2025 that will make a huge difference…

Recycle one more item: Some commonly binned items that you should recycle include deodorants, shaving foam and hair sprays.

Put the right things in your recycling bin: To make sure everything you put in your recycling bin can be recycled, ensure it is clean, dry and loose and if in doubt, checkout Repak.ie

Take some time to get to know the different recycling symbols: for example, any electrical items with a picture of a crossed-out wheelie bin on it, are known as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and can be recycled at recycling centres instead of binned.

Some helpful tips:

• Use your washing up water to rinse items such as glass jars and plastic bottles
• If there's lots of food grease on your pizza box for example, you could tear off the greasy sections and recycle the rest
• Check whether your council collects the lids on plastic and glass bottles and jars
• Remember to remove any polystyrene or bubble wrap before putting cardboard boxes out for recycling
• Remember the three magic works for recycling: Clean, Dry, Loose.
