A man is in hospital under police guard facing a slew of charges over a terrifying 30-minute crime spree which included carjackings, a shooting and a fatal crash.
Bradley Donald Towle, 41, is accused of shooting a good Samaritan following the multi-vehicle collision that killed a 22-year-old woman.
Towle was allegedly driving a red Porsche Macan that police claimed caused the six-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway, north of Brisbane, yesterday.
"The driver of the Porsche Macan allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck the passenger side of a Nissan Micra," police said in a statement.
A passenger in the Nissan – a 22-year-old woman from Upper Mount Gravatt – later died from injuries sustained in the crash at Palmview, on the Sunshine Coast.
The Nissan's driver – a 22-year-old Strathpine man – was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Towle allegedly exited the Porsche armed with a gun and shot the driver of a SsangYong Rexton who stopped to offer assistance.
He is accused of shooting the 62-year-old man in the arm after an altercation then stealing the Rexton.
The good Samaritan was taken to hospital, while his car was found crashed at nearby Landsborough about 20 minutes later.
Towle then allegedly stole a grey Mazda 3 driven by a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint.
The teenager and her parents ran from the vehicle and were not injured.
Towle was arrested about 12.50pm on Monday at a Landsborough intersection on the Sunshine Coast, about 30 minutes after the fatal crash.
A firearm was found inside the vehicle, police said.
Towle sustained head and body injuries in the traffic incidents and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remained under police guard today.
The Tewantin man has been charged with 15 offences.
"Investigations are continuing with further charges likely," police said, urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
The incident began with a crash, multiple alleged carjackings and a shooting.
