Breakers great Tom Abercrombie will be part of the New Zealand franchise's new-look ownership group as they head into the 2026 NBL season.
The club's leading all-time point-scorer will serve as special adviser to US businessman and attorney Marc Mitchell, who purchased the Breakers from Matt Walsh's US-based group earlier this month.
Abercrombie said he "jumped at the chance" to be involved in the Breakers.
"Marc and the new ownership team have a blueprint that will ensure our club exists for the fans and community and becomes a force to be reckoned with again on and off the court."
The investment group also includes Kiwi entrepreneur brothers Leon and Stephen Grice, and their business partner Sean Colgan.
Former owners Paul and Liz Blackwell will become shareholders.
"We have known Marc for several years and he has always had a passion for the Breakers and has wanted to restore the club to its glory years,” they said in a joint statement.
"We are excited to be back on board to instill the Breakers’ culture and help the team reach its full potential in all areas."
Mitchell said he had assembled a group of "proud and passionate" Kiwis and that owning the Breakers was a "dream come true".
"The Breakers are a special part of the fabric of sport in New Zealand and I am honoured to be in a position to help the team thrive on the court and be a true leader in the community."
1News understands staff at the Breakers were issued letters earlier this week stating they would lose their jobs, including chief executive Lisa Edser.
