Dancing with the Stars stylists on working with hosts and judges

Pregnant with her second child, and with two-year-old Marceau at home, MacNeice says that working across the eleven weeks of the show has been particularly busy.

"The start of the year has been mad," she smiles, "but really, really good. We'll have baby two in June so it's hectic but it's good, I feel good."

The Armagh woman says that working with hosts Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy over the years has been a dream, particularly because the two have such different tastes.

"She's just so classy and cool," the stylist says of Zamparelli. "She could wear anything and just look cool - they both do. They're so different in their styles and they've shown so many sides to their styles as well. They're both great and open to everything and that's brilliant and refreshing."

Looking back on this season, MacNeice says that Zamparelli is effortlessly glamorous in both mini and maxi dresses, but confirms that "no one wears a suit like Doireann".

"I think what's great about the girls is that they're both so different; Doireann loves a suit and trousers, she's quite quirky but chic at the same time."

"We've probably been going that bit more chic and simple," she adds, "maybe a bit more grown up than last year, which I love."

As for Zamparelli, the stylist says that she loves Jen in a long look, highlighting Orchestra Week as one of her most memorable moments.

The TV presenter delivered old Hollywood glamour in an incredible scarlet satin gown by Norma Kamali, featuring a plunging V-neckline and form-fitting silhouette.

MacNiece paired this with statement silver earrings from Zara, shimmering bracelets from Weir and Sons shoes from ASOS and a bold red lip.

"That was just a moment," Clémentine smiles. "I thought it was incredible. I think she's just so classy and cool, she just has that kind of... she could wear anything and she'd just look cool."

"You're really celebrating their individual personalities, which is brilliant," says Irene.

In many ways, O'Brien says that judge Loraine Barry is the "anchor" as she has her dresses custom made, often revamping or utterly transforming her older pieces.

As a vintage-lover, O'Brien is particularly thrilled to see such sustainable style at play.

"I would say with Loraine, the majority of her dresses have been restlyed from something she has already worn," she beams.

Another consideration that O'Brien works with is the variety of themes that comes into play during the competitions.

"It's about trying to introduce things at the appropriate time of the season," she explains. On Fright Night, for example, O'Brien and styling assistant Louise Lawlor managed to find a Scream-inspired suit from Next for Arthur that they added "a few little surpises" to, such as strapping around the jacket from trouser cut-offs.

Likewise, Brian Redmond, who can typically be found in a classic three piece suit, was given a Dracula-inspired ensemble from Celtic Tweed that included a women's cape tied together with a chain necklace.

As for new judge Karen? O'Brien says she has an "edgy style" that has led to some show-stopping moments this season.

"Karen was on the dancefloor for so long and has probably worn so many different types of outfits but it was embodying a character or expressing something else," she explains. "For her to come out as Karen is a really big deal, you know? She's young, she's fun and she really loves fashion."

"I think the most fun thing about it is that she has looked different every single week," she adds. "That has been very fun. Obviously, the hair and make-up team have just done amazing with that. In a way, it's about creating different Karens each week instead of different characters, just different versions of her."

One of the most colourful dressers on the panel is, of course, Arthur Gourounlian - a man known for big hair, big boots, and bold patterns.

"We did a couple of weeks where we moved away from suits altogether," says O'Brien, "kind of doing over-sized trousers and shirts. That's something he really wanted to explore - that high-waisted vibe and 70s as well."

"The thing about Arthur is, there's so much fun to be had," she smiles. "We can embrace colour, we can embrace different prints, and then he's so open to different ideas."

One of the first outfits Arhur wore on this season was a bright orange suit that O'Brien combined with a blue and orange kimono that she found in a vintage store.

With the help of Louise Lawlor, the stylists managed to create a shirt out of the 70s piece, adding even more dimension to the eye-catching look.

"I love getting vintage in for any of the judges," she smiles. "And we've managed it a few times this time around."
