Lady Gaga wears McQueen by Dubliner McGirr at iHeartRadio awards

Lady Gaga wore a gown by Dublin Sean McGirr, for Alexander McQueen, at the iHeartRadio Awards last night.

The pop icon was on stage to accept the Innovator Award, celebrating her career, as well as the best collaboration gong, along with US music star Bruno Mars, for their hit single Die With A Smile, which features on her new album Mayhem.

Held at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre in California and now in its 12th year, the iHeartRadio Music Awards celebrates the most-played artists and songs on iHeartRadio stations and the iHeartRadio app throughout 2024.

The dazzling ceremony featured live performances by Gracie Abrams and appearances by Mariah Carey, Bad Bunny and more.

Gaga stepped out in an eye-catching gown, wearing a look from the latest collection from Alexander McQueen, which is currently headed up by creative director Sean McGirr.

The collection, which took place as part of Paris Fashion Week on 8 March, at Paris's Galerie de Géologie et de Minéralogie, was a deep exploration of dark romance, a theme that is intricately woven into the DNA of the brand.

Gaga cemented her look early in her career partly via a deep and fruitful collaboration with the brand, under founder Lee Alexander McQueen, who passed away in 2010. She frequently wore pieces from his collections, most notably in the Bad Romance music video, in which she wears a design from Plato's Atlantis, his final collection.

Last night, Gaga wore a flowing red chiffon design from McGirr's collection, featuring a high ruffled collar, columinous sleeves and ruffled cuffs. She paired this with a soft red lip, which contrasted sharply with her blunt black bob.

Gaga used her moment on stage to speak up about ageism in the entertainment industry, saying: "I don't know totally how to think about this, because winning an award honouring my entire career at 38 years old is a hard thing to get my head around," she said, while accepting the innovator award.

"On the one hand, I feel like I've been doing this forever, and on the other hand, I know I’m just getting started.

"Even though the world might consider a woman in her late 30s old, for a pop star, which is insane, I promise that I’m just getting warmed up."
