Police have named a two-year-old boy killed in a crash south of Auckland earlier this month.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Walters Rd and Blackbridge Rd in Karaka on January 4 after reports that a car had hit a bank.
"One of the occupants sadly could not be revived by first responders and died at the scene, while the other was transported to hospital in a serious condition," police said at the time.
Authorities have today named the crash victim as Zion Barbarich from Pukekohe.
"Police extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of those involved. Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing," a spokesperson said today.
A family member paid tribute to Zion earlier this month, calling him "our special boy".
"No words can really express how devastated we are to lose you."
