Trump, Vance unveil official portraits ahead of inauguration

Official portraits of US President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance were released today, a few days ahead of their inauguration.

In a tradition dating back to the first President George Washington, the portraits are displayed at the White House and the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Today, the Trump-Vance transition team unveiled the portraits.

The release was headlined on their website "Official Portraits Released — And They Go Hard ????"

Trump's portrait shows the President-elect with a stern expression on his face, looking directly at the camera. He wears a blue suit and tie and has a US flag pin on his lapel.

Some users online have pointed out similarities with his now famous mugshot taken by authorities in Georgia after he was booked for charges related to overturning the 2020 presidential election.

It does, however, appear similar to a portrait released before his previous inauguration.

That portrait was later replaced by one that was brightly lit and showed Trump smiling broadly.
