A three-vehicle crash has closed State Highway 29, Lower Kaimai this morning.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said the crash occurred between McLaren Falls Rd and Poripori Rd.
"Delay your journey or follow directions of response crews and expect long delays," it said.
There is no expected opening time for the road at this stage.
Police said the crash involved a car, a ute, and a small truck at about 10.30am.
There are no reports of serious injuries.
"The crash has closed the highway and there is heavy traffic as a result," a police spokesperson said.
"Motorists, especially those leaving Tauranga, are advised to expect delays while the scene is cleared, which may take some time."
In Northland, SH12 is also blocked at Taheke.
Police said the blockage occurred after a truck rolled shortly after 11am.
"No injuries are reported at this time."
Police encouraged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
"The road is expected to be blocked for an extended period of time."
