TimeOut magazine has listed its top city breaks in Europe for 2025, and Cork city has managed to nab an impressive spot at #3.
Avoiding the tourist-heavy capitals of Rome, Paris, and London, the list celebrates 'second cities' and 'culture capitals' that have a feast of restaurants, pubs, cafés, museums and more to be enjoyed.
Writer Liv Kelly described Cork, Ireland's second most populous city, as the "cooler, more chilled younger sibling to jam-packed Dublin".
Cork’s creative scene of art and live music has always been noteable but this year will welcome a brand-new festival, Cork Fringe, from May 9-11.
Described as "a series of lesser-discovered and underrated art forms (traditional Irish theatre, music, comedy)" that will fill a whole host of venues all over the city, the festival is a must-see for music lovers.
"Go for a wander and see what you find before heading to The Mutton Lane (widely considered one of Ireland’s best pubs) for a pint."
Kelly also suggests nabbing a room in Shandon Bells House - an Airbnb that is just a five-minute stroll from the Shandon Bells, a hop across the River Lee to the Crawford Art Gallery, and a place that has plenty of fabulous places to eat and drink on its doorstep.
